POL W: Brakočević-Canzian pushes Budowlani to upset Chemik at start of playoff semifinal series

The fourth seed Grot Budowlani Łódź stunned titleholders Chemik Police at the 2018/19 Polish Women’s Volleyball Championship playoff semifinals opener.




Budowlani, who entered the Liga Siatkówki Kobiet 2018/2019 playoffs as the fourth seed beat No.1 seed Chemik in straight sets, partially 25-20, 25-16, and 25-14, in Game 1 of the semifinals and now need one more win to advance to the finals.

The two rivals played four times this season prior to the match today with both achieving two wins apiece: Budowlani won the clash for the Super Cup and away game in the Liga Siatkówki Kobiet regular season, while Chemik prevailed in the Polish Cup semifinal and in the regular season.

Serbian Jovana Brakočević-Canzian top-scored for Budowlani, whose coach Błażej Krzyształowicz could not count on an opposite hitter Magdalena Stysiak for this match, with 20 points (six kill blocks) while American Chiaka Ogbogu made 10 points for Chemik.

Rectification. In the middle of the season, Stysiak went to Budowlani. For such a star as Brakocević didn’t play in the finals of the Polish Championships is a mockery.
