Poland topped Pool D of the FIVB International Qualifier, that was played on their soil, leaving France and Slovenia to fight for their places in the Olympics through brutally strong European Qualification Tournament in January next year.
“Slovenia played without pressure. Their chances of promotion were very low, so they could play at ease. They started by being 2-3 points ahead of us in the first set and, throughout the whole set, we were several points behind them. In the second set, we started evenly, but there was a lot of fight. It’s volleyball, pressure plays a role here. And we played under pressure because we wanted to qualify. I feel satisfied that we won the qualification here. Especially, because in Poland you are constantly talking about the fact that the second year of work is the worst, and we already have won the bronze in the Nations League and gained the Olympic qualification at the first attempt. So, it’s probably not too bad! You should stop saying that. We have a great team, we work well, cooperation and communication between players and staff are very good – we can achieve good results in the first, second, third and seventh year of work,” Poland head coach Heynen stated after the match against Slovenia.
