Poland bid for co-hosting the 2021 Men’s EuroVolley and the initiative was supported by the country’s government. This was a result of the meeting between the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and PZPS authorities.
“On behalf of the Polish Volleyball Federation, I would like to thank the government’s commitment and for supporting the idea of organizing the European Volleyball Championships in Poland in 2021. Talks are currently underway with the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) and the support and commitment of the government are the main arguments here. Matches of the elimination group would be played in our country, through the 1/8 finals, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. Among the cities that have a chance to apply for the organization are Katowice, Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Tarnów and a number of others because the list is not yet closed,” said the Vice President of the PZPS, Ryszard Czarnecki.
If getting the organization, Poland would beat Germany (also want to co-host) and complete the line-up of EuroVolley hosts as the applications of the Czech Republic, Estonia and, most recently, Finland were accepted by the CEV. Also, in case Poland’s bid goes through, it would host the European Championship for the third time in history. Earlier, a tournament took place in 2013 (co-hosts with Denmark) and 2017.
