For two sets of the match of the 2019/20 PlusLiga regular season between Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Trefl Gdańsk, there were no indications of any drama as the champions were leading with a 2-0 in sets. However, the team coached by Michał Winiarski showed ambition to make the fight for the top spot of ZAKSA complicated and pushed the match to the tie-break. In the end, Nikola Grbić’s wards prevailed 3-2 (25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 22-25, 15-12). Aleksander Śliwka and Hungarian Árpád Baróti tallied 16 points apiece for ZAKSA. Bartosz Filipiak highlighted Trefl with 24 points. These two rivals will soon meet again – on March 14, in the Polish Cup semifinal.

Although they were also forced to resolve the match in the tie-break, VERVA Warszawa ORLEN Paliwa took over the top spot in the charts from ZAKSA. The team from the Polish capital was even in the worse situation that ZAKSA as they had a two-set deficit against GKS Katowice.
