The big news struck Polish volleyball: Michał Kubiak announced the end of his international career after a decade of defending the national team and winning gold medals in top competitions. The legendary outside hitter successfully played for Poland Men since 2011, and from 2015 he was the captain and a true leader on the court. Kubiak informed about his decision on social media.

“My time in white and red colors has come to an end. I made the decision some time ago and today I put a period at the end of it,” the 34-year-old player posted. After saying thanks to his teammates, staff, fans, and many others, Kubiak added: “Although my national team career has come to an end, I’m going to play a little more. So I’m not saying goodbye completely, there’ll be time for that. Perhaps I will be able to play on Polish courts and say goodbye to you personally.”

During his decade-long competing for the national team, Kubiak won 17 medals, 8 of which gold: one in the FIVB World League (2012), 5 in the Wagner Memorial (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021), while he was the world champion twice (2014 and 2018). He was a 3-time Olympian: London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, and Tokyo 2020.  Wearing the Polish jersey, Kubiak was awarded Best Outside Spiker of the 2015 FIVB World League, 2018 FIVB World Championship, and 2021 FIVB Nations League.

Kubiak has been a member of Japan’s Panasonic Panthers since 2018 and has a valid contract with the club until 2023.
