Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and PGE Skra Bełchatów are two of the most successful Polish volleyball clubs in the 21st century. Between them, they have won a staggering 16 out of the 21 Polish championships held during this time period, with Bełchatów winning nine and Kędzierzyn-Koźle winning seven.

This season we seen some ups and downs for both teams, particularly for PGE Skra. However, in the first round, ZAKSA managed to win against Bełchatów after a tense tie-break, while Bełchatów bounced back with a dominant 3-0 victory in this, the latest match (25-20, 25-18, 25-20). Despite being considered the definite favourite, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA struggled to score more than 20 points in any of the three sets, while PGE Skra played brilliantly and only can regrett waking up so late in the season. The potential of the team is much greater than the 10th place it currently occupies in the standings after defeating the reigning Polish champion. The MVP of the match was PGE Skra’s outside hitter, Dick Kooy.

In the second match of the round, Trefl Gdańsk, which has already secured a place in the play-off phase, faced off against PSG Stal Nysa and won 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22). The hosts from Gdańsk were clearly better than their opponents from Nysa, winning two sets convincingly. In the third set, they faced a bit of a challenge, but in the end, Trefl showed their strength in the decisive moments. The MVP of the match was Bartlomiej Bołądź of Trefl Gdańsk.

These matches were a testament to the high level of volleyball played in the Polish Plusliga and we are looking forwartd to see more thrilling matches and intense competition util end of the season.
