Poland secured victory in women’s volleyball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Poland overcame Japan 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 28-26) in their opening match of Pool B at the South Paris Arena 1.
Agnieszka Korneluk and Magdalena Stysiak led the charge for Poland, with Korneluk scoring 20 points and Stysiak 18. Poland dominated at the net with 14 blocks compared to Japan’s four, although Japan outperformed in kills (66 to 55) and aces (five to three). Japan’s captain Sarina Koga led all scorers with 26 points, supported by Mayu Ishikawa and Yukiko Wada with 16 and 13 points respectively. The match saw Poland struggle early as Japan won the first set 25-20. Poland bounced back to win the next three sets, including a thrilling fourth set with a final score of 28-26, clinched by an ace from Martyna Czyrniańska.
