Last season, Polish Men’s Championship was composed of 16 teams which will not be changed in the 2017/18, but the play-off format will. Instead of having top four teams from Regular Season advancing straight to the semifinals, top six teams will qualify for the play-offs of which first two will advance directly to the semis while the teams ranked from the third to the sixth place will compete for the two remained berths in the semifinals. There is one thing regarding the new playoff format that will not stay the same as in 2016/17 – all encounters, including the finals, will be played to the best-of-three series instead of home and away game system, plus golden set. Also, unlike the last season, the two last placed teams in Regular Season will automatically be relegated. PlusLiga Regular Season for the 2017/18 season will start on September 30 and will last until April 14, 2018 after which the play-off phase will set off.
As for the OrlenLiga, the main change comparing to the 2016/17 is the abortion of a golden set in the play-offs in case of tied series, just like in PlusLiga. Next season, Polish Women’s Championship will return to the best-of-three play-off series as the four best ranked teams from the Regular Season advance to the play-offs. Just like in the Men’s competition, two teams with the worst ranking in the Regular Season will lose the right to compete in the top division in 2018/19, which is another important change in the new format. The OrlenLiga Regular Season for 2017/18 will begin on October 14 and will end on April 21, 2018. The play-off phase will begin on April 25.
