“A week ago, it did not look rosy, but now I can say yes, we will stay in the league. In a short period of time, the club started discussions with potential sponsors, organized a fundraising campaign among the supporters, some funding options appeared,” Andrea Anastasi, the coach of Trefl, explained a turnaround regarding the club’s existence that was shaken when the main sponsor “Lotos” withdrew and left a gap of more than 900,000 euros in the budget for the next season. It started the rumors that the key players of Trefl will continue their careers somewhere else.
“We have important contracts. I know that, lately, keeping the contracts was not the rule of the Polish clubs, but in our case, nothing has changed. We are professionals and we do our job. For 15 days of uncertainty, we talked with players more than once. We kept telling ourselves that we were doing our thing because we have no influence on what is going on around us. We are one family, we stick together, no one wants to leave. We all overcame a lot together in this place,” the Italian expert said and emphasized that there will be no salary reductions for the players and coaching staff.
Anastasi also stated that more than 11,500 euros were collected only on the first day of the fundraising campaign, which is the one-third of the necessary funds that Trefl need at the moment.
