The second-seed PGE Skra Bełchatów prevailed in a thriller against No.3 Trefl Gdańsk in Game 1 of the Plus Liga 2017/2018 playoff semifinals.

Unlike their rivals, the side coached by Roberto Piazza had more time to rest for the series of the semifinals as they did not play the first round of the playoffs. And, ultimately, it was one of the key factors in winning the game on the road.

Mariusz Wlazły topped Skra with 26 points. The Serbian Srećko Lisinac and Iranian Milad Ebadipour recorded 4 kill blocks apiece. In Trefl, Damian Schulz scored 23 points, while American Daniel McDonnell made 73% attack (8/11, 1 error).

The top-seed Zaksa Kędzierzyn-Koźle narrowly avoided an upset against No.5 Indykpol AZS Olsztyn to gain a 1-0 in the series – 3-2 (27-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-27, 19-17).
