The fourth seed Fakel brought back the suspense in the 2018/19 Superliga playoff quarterfinal matchup against No.5 seed Belogorie by prevailing in Game 2 and tying the series at 1-1. Fakel achieved a 3-0 win on the road, partially 27-25, 25-22, 25-19, and returned the series to own ground where a decisive game for advancing to the semis will take place (April 17). Fakel head coach Camillo Placì had only nine players at the disposal for the match but they managed to beat Belogorie in an away match for the first time after 10 years. Dmitriy Volkov top-scored for Fakel with 22 points. Serbian Nemanja Petrić notched 15 points for Belogorie.
Both Zenits closed their quarterfinal series with a sweep and moved to the semifinals – the reigning champions from Kazan against Ural Ufa and the Saint Petersburg side against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk. And while Zenit Kazan won Game 2 in straight sets (Maksim Mikhaylov scored 19 points on 77% attack), Zenit Saint Petersburg did only after the tie-break and after coming back from 0-2. The German bomber György Grozer poured in 25 points, including eight aces (!) for the winners. Konstantin Bakun scored 27 for Lokomotiv while Serbian Marko Ivović served six aces. The head coach of the Saint Petersburg team Aleksandr Klimkin stated after the match that Grozer played with an injury and would likely miss out Game 3 in case it was played.
Kuzbass Kemerovo, for which Viktor Poletaev scored 23 points, eliminated Dinamo Moscow (Dmitriy Shcherbinin set up seven kill blocks).
