For a few years back, the winners of the Russian Super Cup are determined through the championship so it was this season as well. The titleholders Kuzbass and Cup winners Zenit-Kazan faced each other in Round 5 of the 2019/20 Superliga Parimatch regular season and the Kemerovo team prevailed by a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23) to win the Superkubok. Kuzbass was led by Viktor Poletaev and Ukrainian Dmytro Pashytskyy who scored 17 points apiece. Mikhail Shcherbakov contributed to a win with 5 kill blocks. As for Zenit-Kazan, who are surprisingly at 2-2, Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov notched 24 points, while Maksim Mikhailov served 6 aces.
Dinamo Moscow and Lokomotiv still lead the Superliga race. Both recorded wins to maintain unbeaten (5-0 and 14 points each). The team from the Russian capital has slightly better set-ratio and holds the No.1.
