RUS M: Zenit-Kazan end own losing streak, their namesakes record 5th win in row

Zenit-Kazan started off 2021 on the right foot by beating the 2020/21 Russian Men’s Volleyball Championship newcomers Neftyanik.

Zenit-Kazan finished 2020 in a negative mood as they suffered three defeats in a row. The team coached by Vladimir Alekno broke the losing streak by beating newcomers Neftyanik in Round 16 of the 2020/21 Russian Men’s Superliga Parimatch regular season (their first match in the new year). However, it was a hard-fought win, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19), to which they were led by Maksim Mikhaylov (23 points).

Zenit-Kazan remained at the top of the standings (37 points) with 4 points more than their namesakes Zenit Saint Petersburg, who were also successful in this round. They prevailed over Ural by a 3-1 and recorded the fifth successive victory in the league. Viktor Poletaev stood out on the winning side with 22 points. Ivan Yakovlev and Ukrainian Dmitriy Pashytksyy set up 6 blocks apiece, while Kirill Ursov had 72 % reception (33 % excellent; 18 digs).
