The 23-year-old Iranian player, Esfandiar, joined the composition of the Russian club, Ural.

The outside hitter was one of the leaders of his country’s national team in the last FIVB Volleyball Nations League, scoring 131 points in 12 matches. However, in the recently concluded FIVB World Championship, Esfandiar was a backup player in his position to Ebadipour and Sharifi. His height of 2.09m, not typical for a player performing his role, made him stand out in youth categories, the level of volleyball in which he competed up until three years ago. For instance, Esfandiar was named MVP of the 2019 FIVB U21 World Championship.

Last season, he wore the jersey of a club in his homeland, Labanyat Haraz Amol. Playing in Russia won’t be Esfandiar’s first overseas adventure as he was a member of Belgium’s VC Greenyeard Maaseik in 2020/21.
