Belogorie Belgorod have high expectations from the 2016/17 season, however they suffered a pretty big shock already at the start of the new campaign. Tetyukhin, Muserskiy and Co. got defeated by Novokuybyishevsk on the road after a tie-break! Belgorod powerhouse was down by 0-2 in sets, they managed to tie the score at 2-2, but they failed to make the full comeback.
In the other matches of the 1st round, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk showed their power in the clash vs. Orenburg away, while the league newcomers Dinamo-Lo prevailed over Enisey Krasnoyarsk after a thrilling five-setter.
