Clayton signed a contract to play for Russian club team, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, this coming season. Last October 5th, the CEO of his club team was at a press conference and revealed Stanley’s injury:
“The situation was not straightforward. Stanley made an unscheduled operation.
It was a surprise for us. He will be out for an indefinite period. His recovery term depends on the rehabilitation, especially player at his age. It is unknown how he can pick up his form. So we are very grateful to our agents who discovered Marcus Nilson (Sweden) to replace Stanley.
We have signed a contract with him and will remain on the team as long as we need him. He can even stay after the New Year. Marcus knows about it and it’s all in his hands. And he has a good chance to stay with us. Playing in Belgorod gave a lot to the coaching staff to think about. We have nothing to hide, we will be stronger when he will play.”
Late last year, he was also injured which forced him to leave his Russian club team, Ural Ufa. He had surgery and went through a long rehab process to recover and compete just in time for the NORCECA Olympic Qualification. Clayton and Team USA won the tournament to qualify for The Games in London.
Clayton got injured in London but still played up to the Quarterfinal Match versus Italy.
