RUS M: Zenit demolish Belogorie in the biggest Superliga derby, Dinamo win marathon 4th set to down Lokomotiv

In the fourth round, Zenit demolished, probably, the most serious candidate to dethrone them in Russia, Belogorie Belgorod by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) thanks to 18 points from the EuroVolley 2017 MVP Maksim Mikhailov. Konstantin Bakun made 13 for Belogorie. So far, Zenit beat two title contenders, dropping only one set while doing so – Lokomotiv Novosibirsk and Belogorie – and extended their winning streak in the home league to 55 games. Recall that last season, Zenit broke Belogorie’s 51-game unbeaten streak which they held for 12 years.

Kuzbass Kemerovo lost their first match in Superliga, 3-2 to Yugra-Samotlor Nizhnevartovsk. Evgeniy Bannov led Samotlor with 19 points, while Ukrainian Dmytro Pashytskyy made 14 for Kuzbass, whose fans have a reason to be happy despite suffering a defeat as their favourite Viktor Poletaev spent the most time on the field, so far, in Superliga (recovers from injury) – all five sets – and notched 10 points.

Lokomotiv lost their second consecutive match. This time, Dinamo Moscow proved to be the better side, 3-1, but each of four sets was highly competitive, especially the fourth – 35-33! Pavel Kruglov topped the team from the Russian capital with 22 points. The German Georg Grozer scored 25 for Lokomotiv.
