The 26-time consecutive champions Brazil easily prevailed over Ecuador by a 3-0 in Pool A, partially 25-10, 25-16 and 25-14. Renan Dal Zotto, the Head Coach of the “Seleção“, summoned a mix of experienced (Leal, Douglas Souza, Cachopa, Thales…) and young players (Felipe Roque, Matheus, Cledenilson…) for the continental event. Brazil National Team is the owner of 31 South American titles, not winning the tournament only once, in 1964, when it withdrew from due to political instability in the country.

Led by Ezequiel Palacios (18 points), Argentina downed Colombia in straight sets in the same pool. Argentina will play pool stage without three important players due to disqualification imposed by the FIVB.

The captain Eduardo Romay (24 points) highlighted Peru in a 3-2 win against Venezuela in Pool B, while hosts Chile swept Bolivia by a 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-13).
