Fenerbahçe Opet prevented VakıfBank from defending the national Cup trophy by beating them in a marathon semifinal encounter at the well-packed Atatürk-Vestel Venus hall in the city of İzmir by a 3-2 (17-25, 25-21, 25-21, 29-31, 15-13). The fourth set lasted for as much as 40 minutes. Cuban Melissa Vargas showed a display for the “Yellow Angels” that will be remembered for a long time – 38 points (three aces)! Vakif lost despite making 22 kill blocks (Zehra Güneş made five of them)! Chinese star Zhu Ting top-scored for the last year’s winners with 28 points.

Eczacıbaşı VitrA also needed five sets to go to the final (March 24 at 16:00 CET). They beat Galatasaray HDI Sigorta thanks to 27 points (four kill blocks) from the Serbian opposite Tijana Bošković and 80% positive reception from the libero Simge Şebnem Aköz. Hande Baladın collected 25 points (three aces) for Galata.

Amazing game. Vargas despite best score still seem like unbrushed diamond, which can be even better. I hope coach Terzic could see that. Eda Erdem is also true capitan, not just in ranks but she make joy in team. Antonijevic could also save some net balls, like Ognjenovic normally does. Looking forward to the Finale. Ezaci is very ‘beatable’.
