“We finished the prelims on top of our group and without suffering any defeat” says head coach Lorenzo Micelli. “However, it does not count anymore as you move to the next stage. We are about to join the knock-out phase where every single team is a world-class opponent. We want to win this first round to get the right edge before the return coming up next week in Turkey. I believe we have been working pretty well also during the Christmas break and we feel ready for this clash”.
Team captain Esra Gümüs adds: “We have scored a series of wins in the prelims but we know that we still need to improve the quality of our game as all teams are literally ascending by this stage of the competition. We played VILLA CORTESE also last year and we know what we are supposed to find there in Italy in terms of ambiance. It won’t be easy but to seize the trophy we have to win every single match along the way to the final. I am confident and trust my team as well”.
The return match is scheduled for next January 24 at “Burhan Felek” Volleyball Hall in Istanbul.
