Galatasaray HDI Sigorta remained in the lead of the 2020/21 Turkish Men’s Volleyball Championship.

In a derby of the last round (Round 30) of the 2020/21 Turkish Men’s AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi regular season, Galatasaray HDI Sigorta defeated Halkbank by a 3-1 (25-22, 29-27, 19-25, 26-24) and ended their 11-game winning streak. Puerto Rican Maurice Torres and Russian Yuriy Berezhko scored 16 points apiece for the ’The Lions’, while Cuban Fernando Hernández put down 28 points on the losing side.

Such an outcome might significantly affect the redistribution of positions for the playoffs. With the win, 5th in a row in the competition, Galatasaray remained the leaders in the standings, which is the position they won’t necessarily preserve because they have to play just one more match. Given that today was their last match in the regular season, Halkbank might easily lose no.4 (the last place that guarantees playoff participation). In case Ziraat Bankkart win, at least, one more match (out of 4 more to play), they will secure no.4 and leave Halkbank without playoffs, which would be quite a sensation.

Arkas Spor swept Haliliye Bld. by a 3-0 and remained in 2nd position. However, the fact they played their last match in the regular season might result in their drop to 4th position in case Feberbahçe HDI Sigprta (won today), Ziraat Bankkart, and Galatasaray HDI Sigorta achieve, at least, one more victory each.
