VakifBank secured a spot in the 2024/25 Turkish Women’s Cup semifinals with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Galatasaray on Wednesday (Feb 12). The intense battle ended with set scores of 25-20, 26-28, 25-17, 18-25, and 15-12.
Russian outside hitter Marina Markova delivered a stunning performance, scoring 38 points—30 in attack with a 55% success rate, 5 aces, and 3 blocks. Her tally surpassed the combined points of her VakifBank teammates Kiera Van Ryk (10), and Derya Cebecioglu (15).
For Galatasaray, Katarina Lazovic led with 23 points, followed by Ilkin Aydin (15) and Alexia Carutasu (14).
In the semifinals, VakifBank will face Eczacibasi, while Fenerbahce awaits the winner of THY vs. Besiktas. The quarterfinals conclude on February 13, determining the final spot in the AXA Sigorta Cup Final Four.
