The Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi play-off semi-final stage came to a thrilling conclusion today as Fenerbahçe Medicana defeated arch-rivals Galatasaray Daikin in a gripping five-set match, securing their place in the league final.
Playing on their home court at Burhan Felek Vestel Volleyball Hall, Fenerbahçe edged out Galatasaray 3-2 in the final game of the best-of-three series, clinching the series 2-1. The match scores were as follows: 23-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13, 15-9.
Despite a shaky start and a hard-fought first set that went Galatasaray’s way, the Yellow Angels bounced back in the second, to level the score at 1-1. Galatasaray responded fiercely in the third set, but Fenerbahçe’s stars turned the tide in the fourth, particularly with push from Arina Fedorovtseva (19 pts), and Melissa Vargas (22 pts).
The deciding fifth set was one way road. With Vargas delivering back-to-back points, Fenerbahçe led 8-5 at the court change. Maintaining their momentum and composure, the team closed the match with a 15-9 win. Ana Cristina De Souza added also impresive 21 points for winning team. At Galatasaray, the top scorer was Katarina Lazovic with 20 points, followed by Ilkin Aydin and Alexia Carutasu, who each contributed 15 points.
With this victory, Fenerbahçe moves on to the Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi final, where they will face VakıfBank. The final series, scheduled to begin on April 17 (Thursday), will be played in a best-of-five format. The first team to win three matches will be crowned champions of the 2024–2025 season.
