Türkiye men’s national team is headed for a fresh start after the national federation confirmed it has parted ways with head coach Umut Çakır and assistant Mert Karatop. The decision, described as mutual, marks the end of an era and possibly the beginning of a bold new chapter. Though the departure wasn’t entirely unexpected, it’s sparked a wave of curiosity about who will step in next.
And the name on everyone’s lips? Radostin Stoytchev.
The Bulgarian volleyball guru, currently coaching Halkbank Ankara, is rumored to be the front-runner for the job. Known for his strong mindset and no-nonsense approach, Stoytchev could bring the structure and spark Türkiye needs to move forward.
So far, the Turkish squad has had a rocky ride in the Volleyball Nations League — winning just two matches (against Bulgaria and China) and losing six. It’s clear the team has talent, but they’ve struggled to bring it all together on the court.
