TURKISH CUP M: Halkbank run over Arkas in debut of coach Kovač, İnegöl unexpectedly eliminated Ziraat

Three-time consecutive Turkish men’s volleyball Cup winners Halkbank Ankara advanced to the semifinal of the competition for 2016/17.

Reigning national Cup and national Championship title holders Halkbank swept Arkas Spor İzmir away in the quarterfinals of the Cup 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 26-24). Burutay Subasi with 21 and Dutch Dick Kooy with 10 points helped their new coach, Serbian Slobodan Kovač, to make victorious debut at the bench of Halkbank. In Arkas, Gökhan Gökgöz and Hakkı Çapkınoğlu scored 12 points each. Çapkınoğlu included seven aces!

In semis, Halkbank will meet İstanbul BBSK, who downed city rivals Galatasaray İstanbul in four sets, with 28 points from Frenchman Antonin Rouzier (3 aces). The Pole Zbigniew Bartman highlighted Galatasaray with 25.

Fenerbahçe İstanbul prevailed over Maliye Piyango, while İnegöl Bld. upset league leaders Ziraat Bank Ankara 3-2 in other two quarterfinal clashes.
