Two-time defending champions of Turkey, Halkbank, prevailed in a spectacular derby in Round 19 against the fourth-ranked Arkas Spor on the road by a 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 25-23, 28-30, 17-15) and extended their winning streak to 15 games!
Halkbank had as much as three players with 20 or more points: the Cuban Fernando Hernández scored 26, Burutay Subaşı 22 (4 aces) and Serbian Nemanja Petrić 21 points. In addition, they had two players with 5 kill blocks apiece: Emre Batur and Faik Samet Güneş, while as a team, Halkbank made 16 kill blocks. As for Arkas, the Cuban Michael Sánchez Bozhulev scored 25 points (4 kill blocks).
With this win, Halkbank secured No. before the playoffs as they have nine points and four wins more than the nearest followers Fenerbahçe, who beat İnegöl Bld. in four sets with 17 points (5 aces) from Metin Toy.
Ziraat Bankası, who started the season with a 10-0 record and were leaders in the standings until less than a month ago, suffered their fourth straight defeat. This time, Afyon Bld. Yüntaş were better than the powerhouse by a 3-1 leaving Ziraat to fight hard against Arkas and İstanbul BBSK for No.4, which is the last place in the standings securing home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
There are three more rounds to be played until the end of the regular stage.
