The tryout involved participants from 92 colleges and evaluated athletes for the US Women’s National Team, the US Collegiate National Team and for the US Women’s Junior National Team for players born in 1996 or 1997.
The tryout was directed by Karch Kiraly and his staff, with the assistance of 50 evaluators, court coaches and DataVolley statisticians. Participants were on court for approximately eight hours each during the weekend.
Speaking to USAVolleyball, Karch Kiraly said:
“I actually really enjoy coming up to Colorado Springs and sharing a weekend with people who are passionate about volleyball. Our gym is bursting at the seams. We handle as much as we can with around 240 athletes – we are at capacity. We try to get better each year, and I think we organized our best tryout yet. So in a lots of ways, this was a big success.”
Participants selected to join the national team will begin training with Team USA as early as the spring of 2015. The United States are top of the women’s world ranking after winning the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014. The team’s first chance to qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 will come at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Japan from August 22 to September 5.
