USA successfully skipped one more big obstacle on the road to their goal. They defeated Iran by 3-1 and remained the only team at the tournament with the perfect score. Still, Day 7 at the FIVB World Cup 2015 did not start very well for Americans. They lost the opening set quite easily – 25:20 – and perhaps frightened their fans back in the States.
But, the reaction of the USA squad was instant. They tied the score by winning the second set 25:19 and raised the morale in the team. In the right moment actually, because the third set was the crucial one.
Two sides were tied at 20:20 when USA took so important two points in a row. Aaron Russell and Taylor Sander performed two great attacks for 22:20, while couple of moments later Maxwell Holt used the very first set point of his team – 25:22, 2-1 in sets for Americans.
Finally, USA finished the job in the fourth set. They made a quick escape from 7:7 to 11:7 and successfully kept the lead throughout the whole set. Iran only managed to approach to 20:18, but after John Speraw called a time-out his boys took 3 points in a row for 23:18… It ended with 25:21.
Matt Anderson was the top scorer and the MVP of the match! He made 19 points for the USA.

This guy Kovac is even better than Voronkov in destroying national teams
Iran will always be in the first four teams, but never nr. 1 because of their mentality!!! And you’ll see Kovac very soon what he will do with some other group…
@BLUEREDWHITE, Exactly! A coach beside knowledge of volleyball needs prestige while Kovach doesn’t have! He is ruining a good team of Velasco. I don’t know where is the problem but players don’t listen to him and ignore him!
