NCAA M: Taylor Sander’s brother leads BYU to finals, Ohio State cruise past Hawai’i (VIDEO)

No.3 Brigham Young University – BYU upset second seed Long Beach State (California State University, Long Beach) in the semifinals of the 2017 Men’s NCAA Division 1 Volleyball Tournament to advance to the championship match.

We all know the quality of Taylor Sander, the 2014 FIVB World League winner with the U.S. NT, bot world of volleyball will soon get another star from this family – his brother Brenden!

Junior outside hitter Brenden Sander made 15 kills (tied season-high) in the straight-set win of the Cougars (26-4) over Long Beach St. (27-4) in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship at „St. John Arena“, Columbus, Ohio, 25-20, 25-18, 25-23. German junior opposite Tim Dobbert added 11 kills. In the 49ers, two players stood out with 12 kills – sophomore opposite TJ DeFalco and sophomore outside hitter Kyle Ensing.

Thus, BYU will face Final Four hosts Ohio State University for the national championship match.

As for title holders and top seed Ohio St. (31-2), they cruised past No.4 University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (27-6) in less than 90 minutes, partially 25-23, 25-18, 25-19, having the lead nearly from start to finish of the match.

French junior outside hitter Nicolas Szerszen topped the Buckeyes in attack with 10 kills. On the other side, Dutch sophomore outside hitter Stijn van Tilburg finished with 13 kills.

Final match between Ohio St. and BYU is seto for May 6.
