The home side displayed some great Volleyball in the opening set with fast attacks well prepared by setter Arslan Eksi (25-17).
The hosts maintained that good tempo also in set 2 going up 5:1 but Asseco Resovia fought back anchored by some spectacular play of Marko Bojic going for the provisional 1:1 (22-25).
RZESZOW tried to shake the defense of Fenerbahce with some powerful serving in set 3 before the middle blockers gradually opened a cushion in the score for the home team.
However, helped by the mistakes committed by Fenerbahce, Asseco Resovia got back on track, cut the gap and went for the 1:2 (23-25).
Well supported by Ivan Miljkovic Fenerbahce did not miss the last chance to get back into the game and eventually called for a tie-break (25-19).
There the home guys stretched the good momentum displayed in the fourth set going up 8:5 as teams changed sides of the net and eventually finished it off at 15-10 for the joy of the local fans.
“Since we do not want to take the risk of a golden set we’ll go to Poland to win also the return game and qualify for the semifinals. Rodrigo Quiroga debuted tonight for our team and I am sure that by next week we’ll feel his contribution and help even more” says Fenerbahce head coach Daniel Castellani.
“I have to congratulate our opponents because they played a great game. I know we can play even better than we did in the last two sets tonight so we have to go back to practice, work hard and do our best to win also the return match in Poland” stresses home captain Arslan Eksi.
“We are evidently not happy with this result but we’ll do our best to take the next match and also the golden set in front of our great fans” adds Asseco Resovia mentor Andrzej Kowal.
“I have to congratulate Fenerbahce because they are a great team. However, we are a great side too and even though we lost tonight, we still have our sights on the semis as the return game in Poland will be a different story” concludes RZESZOW captain, Belarusian Aleh Akhrem.
