After winning the bronze medal place in the 2017/18 Superliga, in their debut season in the country’s top flight, Sesc-RJ hired the opposite Wallace Souza!

The 2016 Rio Olympics champion with Brazil national team refused to extend the deal with EMS Taubaté Funvic at the end of the last season and rumors that tied him to Rio de Janeiro club starter to circulate immediately after that.

Ever since he started to play volleyball professionally, which was in 2004, a 31-year-old Wallace took a leading role and kept it in each one of the teams for whom he played.

“We have everything we need to have a great season. The team has been well assembled. Each player has individual talents that complement each other. I want to try to help the team in the best possible way, to be used well and to assist in the achievements. The biggest obvious goal is to reach the championship final and be the champion,” Wallace said upon signing with Sesc.

His gold medal harvest began in 2007 when he has been crowned the FIVB U21 World Championship winner. With the senior national team of Brazil, in which he became the starter in the 2012 London Olympics, Wallace won the 2016 Rio Olympics, South American Championship three times, Pan American Games once, and FIVB World Grand Champions Cup twice.

His was a two-time Brazilian Superliga and FIVB Club World Championship winner as well as one-time South American Club Championship gold medalist (all with Sada Cruzeiro).

Individually, Wallace was named MVP of the FIVB Club World Championship and South American Club Championship once each, Best Opposite of the Olympic Games once, FIVB World League twice, FIVB Club World Championship, World Grand Champions Cup, South American Championship and South American Club Championship once each as well as Best Scorer of Superliga twice and Best Spiker of Pan American Games and Superliga once each.

In addition to Wallace, Sesc hired Leandro Santos “Aracajú” from Sesi-SPDjalma Moreira from BCC Castellana Grotte (Italy), and Victor Hugo Pereira from Pamvochaikos (Greece).
