Meriwether, who played volleyball in college, helped coach the 88 children and 10 teachers from schools around Livingstone in the one day program, under the support of the American Embassy. The participants learned basic volleyball drills and rules.

The program, which was designed for children under 14-years-old, was developed in support of the national federation to promote volleyball among girls, especially those living in rural areas.

Along with Miss USA, NF President Dr Gabriel Muyinda, and US Ambassador to Zambia, Mark Storella, also took part in the program.

Later this year, Zambia is planning to hold a 2013 Festival to teach volleyball skills to youths aged 17 and younger from nearby schools.
