As a player, he represented the Italian national team in 141 matches, winning multiple championships including the 1990 World Championship and the 1989 European Championship. His club-level journey began with Parma in 1977, leading to three CEV Challenge Cup victories with Modena, Falconara, and Treviso.

Transitioning to coaching in 1994, Anastasi guided several teams to major achievements, most notably the Italian national team, with whom he clinched several European Championships, World Leagues, and an Olympic bronze medal. In the Italian Serie A League, Anastasi led Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo to twice secure fourth place and win the 2005 Italian Cup.

Anastasi then moved to Spain, leading the team to a historic European Championship title in 2007, while achieving silver at the Mediterranean Games. He returned to Italy in 2007, though with less success, and subsequently got hired as the head coach for Poland in 2011, revitalizing the team and securing numerous medals.

Anastasi’s recent coaching assignments have included Trefl Gdańsk, where he achieved the 2014/15 Polish Cup and a Polish Championship silver medal, and Sir Safeti Perugia, where he won the Italian Super Cup and FIVB World Club Championship.
