Legendary coach of Cuba, Orlando Samuels Blackwood took a new role in Dominican national team

He coached Cuba’s men’s team to a gold medal at the 1989 FIVB Volleyball World Cup and silver medals at the FIVB Volleyball World Championships in 1990 and 2010.

An FIVB Instructor, Samuels’ teams also claimed titles at four NORCECA Championships as well as in the 1991 Pan American Games and the 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games.

I am a hard worker and the boys know that and are willing to do their part,Samuels said. “What I’ve seen is a group with high potential and the results must show if we comply with the projected plan.”

The Dominicans are reigning champions of the Central American and Caribbean Games after winning the gold medal in Veracruz, Mexico in 2014.

We have the potential to go further than Central American Games. “We have to explore the Pan American Games, the World League and the Olympic Games, but we have to do a hard work to achieve it.
