CL W: Piccinini carries out drawing of lots for group stage, check out pools composition

Bulgarian capital of Sofia hosted a drawing of lots for the 2020 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League.


The seven-time CEV Women’s Champions League winner and a two-time MVP Francesca Piccinini, who has just retired from playing professionally, carried out a draw for a group stage (4th Round) of this season’s edition of the prestigious tournament. Well-proven format of five pools of four teams each remained. An 18 teams were seeded directly into these pools, while the remained two vacant spots will be filled with 3rd Round winners.

The Women’s tournament will begin on November 19.

POOL A: Eczacıbaşı VitrA İstanbul (TUR), Budowlani Łódź (POL), LP SALO (FIN), Fenerbahçe Opet İstanbul (TUR)

POOL B: VakıfBank İstanbul (TUR), Lokomotiv Kaliningrad Region (RUS), Nova KBM Branik Maribor (SLO), Savino Del Bene Scandicci (ITA)

POOL C: Igor Gorgonzola Novara (ITA), ŁKS Commercecon Łódź (POL), Allianz MTV Stuttgart (GER), qualifier /VK UP Olompuc (CZE) or Khimik Yuzhny (UKR)/

POOL D: Carraro Imoco Conegliano (ITA), Nantes VB (FRA), CSM Volei Alba Blaj (ROU), qualifier /Vasas Óbuda Budapest (HUN) or Partizani Tirana (ALB)/

POOL E: Dinamo Moscow (RUS), RC Cannes (FRA), Maritza Plovdiv (BUL), Uralochka-NTMK Ekaterinburg (RUS)

She quit the national team to spend more time with her son if I remember correctly. It was never an issue of quality, she is still a top player. Reply
