Gian Luca Pasini published that Sir Safety Conad Perugia and Cucine Lube Civitanova, the two best teams in the Italian male volleyball at the moment, will exchange starting setters. Not directly, though...

Pasini published in his blog that Perugia setter Luciano De Cecco has a three-year contract with Lube in his hands and that’s only a matter of time when the transfer of an Argentine is going to be made official. Allegedly, Lube’s management was forced to make such a move because their starting setter Bruno Rezende wants to return to Brazil after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

However, the fact he still hasn’t made the final decision on his future seems like a chance to Perugia’s President Gino Sirci to try to convince Brazilian to stay in Italy for the next season. According to Pasini, Perugia started negotiations with the famous “Bruninho“.

Not sure this is a smart move on Lube's part. De Cocco is not the level of Bruno, Christenson and Giannelli. Maybe they should outside of Italy for great setter since they forced Christenson out who just signed a 3-year extension with Modena, and Giannelly is not leaving Trentino.

Re: @former_player
Agree on that, they could try getting Toniutti or Marouf, better choices in my opinion that De Cecco. Lube won a few days ago because of De Cecco's bad decisions, Perugia attackers were in much better mood that Lube's.

Re: @Direktor De Cecco doesn't have hitters like Juantorean, Leal, Simon. Leon and Atanasijevic are not enough. Rychlicki is already a good opposite, will only grow in the next few years to become 1st class.
I am not sure if you noticed that two Perugia starters (Lanza and Podrascanin) were benched in the 4th set. Lube is just too good, they are the best in the world right now.

Re: @former_player
I would rather say that Leon wasn't enough, and he is a class of those three from Lube, Atanastijević couldn't do much because he got really small number of balls from De Cecco. Lanza was bad, that's for sure, and even at his best he is not near mentioned Cuban-born players, but Podraščanin went out so that Plotnitskiy can get in instead of Lanza (rule for number of strangers on court) and you definitely shouldn't forget him. And yeah, I agree that Lube is the best right now, but for this game they were not near their max and Perugia should have used it.

I think De Cecco's weaknesses are block and quickness of movement on the court and Christenson and Bruno are better in these elements. In regard to passing and tactics of offence, argentinian is in some moments even more cleaver. So I think Lube is not 'losing' from that change and veteran setters like Marouf or Toniutti are not better variants in this regard.

By Mark Lebedew: The Best Player You Might Have Heard Of...but have probably forgotten

Older video, records and analyses, editing, research by Mark Lebedew are very interesting. I take his work as priceless.. No one else do such a work...He provides us with many volleyball jewels, observations.. In past we often could not see many top tournaments, or matches on TV ….There was no Internet, no YT. Only very limited TV ... We often did not know the background, problems on some tournaments - see e.g. what happened during Italy vs Netherlands OG 1992, on M.L. YT channel, and how it had influenced a final with Brazil..
In time of pandemic, we can take a lesson from some former activities on courts . In past there was a much more decent behaviour during matches, avoiding useless personal contacts , no so and such intimacy as nowadays, no expressive shouting as is a current rule after killing spike or blocks, ourts... Only at the end of the match, tournaments emotions were same as now... (Now we see on 75 and more the useless, risky, ritual teamś hugging per a match) .. Moreover until 1998, volleyball was for TV fans very friendly - due to of a perfect visible. recognizable white ball. Since this time, the screen fans eyes suffer - volleyball has become a pantomime on screens.
Moreover the game was much more smoothly - no so many and so long interruptions as nowadays.. Majority of referees had a respect..
I suppose, if volleyball wants to survive this pandemic crisis, it will have to return to some above mentioned procedures.. Systematically...
