Merkur Maribor are Slovenian men’s champions for the first time since the 1992/93 season and the 3rd time in total in the club history.

The playoff finals of the 2020/21 Sportklub 1A. DOL between them and ACH Volley Ljubljana served real drama. Maribor were 2 matches down in the series but then staged a comeback and prevailed in Game 5 at home in the tie-break, partially 29-31, 25-19, 25-16, 24-26, and 15-12, winning the series by a 3-2. They, thus, broke the 16-year dominance of ACH Volley in the national championship.

Rok Možič and Alen Šket led Maribor in a decider with 27 and 25 points respectively.
