It seems that this volleyball season, just like few others in Earvin Ngapeth’s career, can’t go without some sort of a scandal or misbehaving.

The French superstar Earvin Ngapeth wasn’t included in the Zenit-Kazan squad for yesterday’s match in the 2020/21 Russian Men’s Superliga Parimatch regular season against Ural (3-0). It was a result of the fact that he voluntarily left the club after the tournament of the 2021 CEV Champions League in Berlin, held a week ago.

Ngapeth’s agent Luca Novi confirmed for Biznes Online that his protégé left Zenit on December 10 without permission. At some point, the player stopped communicating with the coaching staff and didn’t arrive at the airport from where the Rusian side took off on a charter flight. The agent didn’t name the reason for such a decision of the Frenchman. The Kazan club also didn’t say what was the motive for such a behavior of Ngapeth.

“We confirm that Ngapeth didn’t come with the team from Berlin. We learned from the agent that he was in France. According to him, on December 20, Ngapet will be in Kazan. After that, we’ll provide additional information. There will be no further comments yet,” the vice-president of the Kazan club Ilham Rakhmatullin said to Biznes Online.

According to the media, Ngapeth regretted what he had done and is ready to accept a serious fine that is likely inevitable upon returning to Kazan. Luckily for him, rules for the entry of professional athletes to Russia are less rigid than to others and he won’t be required to go to quarantine but only to provide a negative PCR test.
