WoV Player of 2017 (M): Why did we choose these names?

by WoV

WorldofVolley is choosing the best male and female players in 2017!

Poll

Poll

It’s all up to fans who are voting for their favorite names in our poll. In this article, we will provide some explanations why we have decided to put exactly these names to this competition:

Wilfredo Leon – CUB (Zenit Kazan): This guy is the best player in the world right now. Even though he doesn’t have any achievements at the national team level, his performances at the club’s level push him to the top of the volleyball world. The Cuban outside hitter, who will get an opportunity to play for Poland in 2019, has won many trophies with Zenit and many individual awards in 2017! Starting from the CEV Champions League gold and MVP award, the Russian championship and national cup, all the way to the trophy at the Club World Championship, where he was the most dominant player. All these things pushed Leon to this competition!

Earvin Ngapeth – FRA (Modena): He didn’t have a good season at the club’s level, as Modena lost all battles in Italy in 2017, however, during the summer, Earvin Ngapeth has managed to make something that recommended him to become a part of this poll. With France, he won the World League 2017 and he earned the MVP award for being the best player at the Final tournament in Brazil.

Maxim Mikhailov – RUS (Zenit Kazan): Is it enough to say – the MVP of the European Championship and CEV Champions League?! It was enough to put his name on this list. Since he is a teammate of Wilfredo Leon in Zenit Kazan, he won the same trophies like the Cuban star so we don’t need to mention them again. His contribution to these achievements, both at club’s and international level, was huge!

Osmany Juantorena – CUB (Cucine Lube Civitanova): Winning the Italian Serie A1 and taking one silver (Club World Championship) and one bronze (CEV Champions League) were the main parameters to think about placing his name among these players. The key moment was the MVP award at the Club World Championship. Being second in the world and being MVP of the competition is one of the reasons to put his name to this poll.

Yoandy Leal – CUB (Sada Cruzeiro): A man who has been a trademark of Sada Cruzeiro over the past few years. Since this is a poll for the best player in 2017, Leal has something to pull out of his sleeves. It’s gold medal in one of the best national championships in the world – Brazilian Superliga. He was the best player of the team in this journey and this is not the only thing that recommended his name for this poll. He is a part of the Club World Championship Dream Team and he won the bronze medal with Sada Cruzeiro.

You just love Ngapeth December 19, 2017 - 7:07 pm

Ngapeth wasn’t even that much used in World League until the finals. He’s not deserving to be there. The lack of a setter of this list is discouraging too. You just love Ngapeth and you can’t stop mentioning his name.

Re: @You just love Ngapeth
Ngapeth beat the Olympic Champions at home…so yeah he totally deserves to be in this list!

Re: @Pable
And Czech Republic destroyed Ngapeth in the CEV European Championship. Ngapeth the God didn’t even reach the Quarterfinals.
Lucarelli probably deserves more of this than him this year atleast reaching the final of Superliga and World League. Winning the Brazil Cup and World Grand Champions Cup as the MVP.

But hey let’s milk another year of Ngapeth. lmao
