Ruoqi Hui ended her 18-year career in which she won the Olympic gold medal in Rio.

An emotional retirement ceremony for the 26-year-old outside hitter was held during the Chinese League match of her club Jiangsu at the close of the Regular Season over the weekend.

This puts an end to a brilliant 18-year career, during which Hui underwent multiple surgeries, including on her heart, but always came back to thrill her millions of fans at home and across the world.

Hui will remain involved in the sport, but will now focus on a foundation she has set up to promote the development of women’s volleyball.

I will focus on the development foundation in 2018 and try to solve some social problems by sports activities,” Hui said.
