After they stunned reigning champions France in the opening match of the Pool D in Katowice, the „Red Dragons“ notched another triumph in the tournament as they outplayed Turkey in the tie-break, partially 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 27-25, 18-16.
It was a 2-hour thriller in which every set was highly competitive and in which Belgium were on the verge to spoil the good impression they left by beating France, two days ago. Turkey had 2-1 in sets and 16-12 in the fourth set but failed to shock Vital Heynen’s side.
Both teams had a monster blocking display (16-13 for Belgium) while Turkey had a match top scorer, Metin Toy, who collected 31 points. In Belgium, Sam Deroo highlighted with 25, while Pieter Verhees made 7 kill blocks!
