Giba appointed as Chairman of newly formed FIVB Athletes Commission

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced that its Board of Administration approved a decision to create an Athletes Commission - the first in the history of the FIVB.

The composition of the newly appointed committee consists of both prominent retired and active volleyball indoor players (VB) and beach volleyball players (BVB). Legendary Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho, also known as Giba, became its chairman.

The immediate mission of the Athletes Commission will be to promote the values of volleyball as a clean sport, to disseminate information to athletes regarding medical and anti-doping matters, to study proposals for the athletes’ post-career opportunities and to provide feedback on FIVB competitions and propose improvements.

The composition of Athletes Commission:

  • Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho ‘Giba’ VB (BRA) – Chairman
  • Vladimir Grbić VB (SRB) – Secretary
  • Ekaterina Gamova VB (RUS)
  • Julius Brink BVB (GER)
  • Xue Chen BVB (CHN)
  • Emanuel Rego BVB (BRA) (as an expert)
  • Eleonora Lo Bianco VB (ITA)
  • Bartosz Kurek VB (POL)
  • Kerri Walsh BVB (USA)
  • Kim Yeon-Koung VB (KOR)

Members of the Commission will be formally presented at the ceremony of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on August 15, during Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
