Fabian Drzyzga traveled with the team to Rio, however he was hardly playing during the tournament. Head coach Stephane Antiga was giving advantage to Grzegorz Lomacz, so Drzyzga was standing in the subs corner for most of the time.
That may explain his statement given to przegladsportowy.pl when he was asked whether Poland should change head coach this year…
“For me the answer is definitely yes. Something just went wrong. Of course, I only speak for myself, but it seems to me that most of the players think the same. When there is no good atmosphere, there is also no success. It is quite an important factor in sport. Still, it does not interest me who will be the national team coach. It is the responsibility of the Polish Volleyball Federation. We are players after all, and we should focus only on games.”
Drzyzga was also asked what does he expect to change in the national team in future.
“I expect to have clear rules, like in my club. I am aware that every coach has his starting lineup. It is a normal thing. But, some of our previous coaches often used to forget that they have subs. Simply, if some of the guys from the starting lineup does not have his day, then the coach should not be afraid to make a substitution. But, these things unfortunately happen in our national team.”
