Polish PGE Skra Bełchatów caused ENORMOUS upset in the first leg of the CEV Champions League Playoffs 6 by defeating reigning European champions, Zenit Kazan on road 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 27-25, 18-16)! Thus, Skra broke 28-game winning streak of Zenit in all competitions and 12-game winning streak in the Champions League!

Skra were lost in first two sets succumbing to powerful attacking potential of Wifredo León (31 points) and Matthew Anderson and blocking performance of Aleksandr Gutsalyuk.

Set 3 also went into favor of Russian giants, who had 10-6 and open way to straight-set victory. But, then Facundo Conte (21 points) and Mariusz Wlazły re-installed sighting devices for full turnaround despite dropping 15-12 in Set 4.

Tie-break was point for point play in which neither team gained more than a one-point lead. How intense the game was shows the fact that even Vladimir Alekno, the coach of Zenit, known by his coolness, showed highly visible signs of nervousness.

Second leg is scheduled for March 24 in Lodz.
