Vladimir Alekno won’t remain on the bench of the Russia men’s national team, while it is expected that the Russian Volleyball Federation will name the new head coach in Novemeber. Until then, there will probably be plenty of rumors about who might succeed Alekno…
According to life.ru, the portal which published that Alekno is leaving the team, there are two main candidates for the position of Russia head coach.
The first one is Plamen Konstantinov, current head coach of Bulgaria men’s national team. There are ongoing speculations that Konstantinov will leave Bulgaria very soon, so he would be free to negotiate with the Russian Volleyball Federation. Also, it is important to mention that Konstantinov has been working in Russian clubs over the past few years (Nizhny Novgorod and Lokomotiv Novosibirsk).
The second candidate is Boris Grebennikov, current head coach of Ural Ufa. He also knows Russian volleyball very well, but so far he has not made any major achievement in club’s career.
