Tournament Format

The tournament will follow the same format as Tokyo 2020, with 24 teams in each gender divided into six pools. Each team will face their three pool opponents once. The top two teams from each pool, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance directly to the Round of 16. The remaining four third-placed teams will compete in a “lucky loser” round to fill the last two spots in the Round of 16. From there, the tournament will proceed in a single-elimination format through to the medal matches.
