The heart of global beach volleyball will beat in Crete. From May 16 to 18, 2025, TUI Magic Life Candia Maris of the Metaxa Hospitality Group will host Nations Cup for the first time – one of the sport’s most iconic international events.
Nations Cup is held under the auspices of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) and the Ministry of Tourism with the co-organization of the Region of Crete, the Hellenic Volleyball Federation, the Municipality of Malevizi, and Metaxa Hospitality Group, to promote Crete as a global sporting and tourist destination.
This year’s event, which significantly contributes to the international growth and appeal of the sport, will feature national teams from six countries. With top men’s teams from the Netherlands, Hungary, Luxembourg, and Greece, and women’s teams from Poland, Estonia, and Greece, the tournament brings some of the biggest names in European beach volleyball to Crete. A spectacular gathering of elite athletes who turn every set into an experience, setting high standards for both entertainment and competition.
Nations Cup stands out from traditional beach volleyball tournaments by emphasizing teamwork and national representation. Instead of independent pairs, each country participates with two teams (men’s and/or women’s), competing as a unified squad. Each match consists of two games—one for each pair. If the result is tied (1-1), qualification is decided by a “golden set.” This format demands strategy, collaboration, and team spirit, as the final winner is determined by the overall performance of the national team, rather than individual athletes.
