Olympic beach volleyball champion Anders Mol is set to make a surprise switch to indoor volleyball after signing with Italian SuperLega team Rana Verona for the 2026/27 season.
The Norwegian star joins Fabio Soli’s squad as the club’s final signing and is expected to play as an opposite hitter, marking a rare move from the beach game to one of the world’s top indoor leagues.
Mol, 29, is one of beach volleyball’s most decorated players. Alongside longtime partner Christian Sørum, he won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, bronze at Paris 2024, the 2022 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship, and multiple international titles.
Despite the transition, Mol stressed that his beach volleyball career will continue. He will complete the current Beach Pro Tour season before focusing on his indoor campaign in Italy, with plans to reunite with Sørum next year as they target the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“I chose Rana Verona because I found an ambitious club with a clear vision,” Mol said. “This is an exciting opportunity to challenge myself in a completely new environment. I want to learn every day, give everything for the team, and grow as a player.”
He added that the experience of competing in the SuperLega could strengthen his beach volleyball game ahead of the next Olympic cycle.
Rana Verona sporting director Adi Lami described the signing as a major addition to the squad.
“Anders is an extraordinary champion who knows how to compete and win at the highest level,” Lami said. “His experience, professionalism and winning mentality will be invaluable both on the court and in the locker room.”
Mol’s arrival follows Rana Verona’s best-ever season, in which the club won the Italian Cup, finished runners-up in the Super Cup, claimed bronze in the SuperLega, and secured qualification for the CEV Champions League for the first time in its history.
