So far, the team that was established a year ago and immediately gained the right to compete in the 2018/19 Superliga justifies heavy investment from the club officials. After securing a high seed, No.2, Lokomotiv Kaliningrad region opened the playoff quarterfinals with a win which, however, was not achieved in an easy manner. The seventh seed Enisey Krasnoyarsk forced the major title favorites to play the tie-break: 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 15-7) in a nearly two-hour match. Cuban Ana Cleger top-scored for Lokomotiv with 34 points while Yuliya Kutyukova served five of the team’s 13 aces. Margarita Kurilo put down 22 points for Enisey. Yana Manzyuk set up as much as eight of the team’s 17 kill blocks!

The top seed Dinamo Moscow easily prevailed over No.8 Leningradka Saint Petersburg who came to the Russian capital without their head coach Aleksandr Kashin (underwent surgery) and starting outside hitter, Azerbaijani Yelyzaveta Samadova (injury). Anna Lazareva scored 12 points for Dinamo for which Ekaterina Efimova made five kill blocks. A 19-year-old outside hitter Sofiya Kuznetsova noted 12 points for Leningradka.

The third seed Dinamo Kazan cruised to a straight-set win over No.6 Dinamo Krasnodar.
