Nothing is better than a gold medal. There were many strong teams at the European Championship and in my opinion, the victory at this tournament is equal to reaching the final of the World Championship. Because, one way or another both teams have to beat almost the same team. Despite all the doubts, we managed to do it. I have to thank all those who were involved in the victory at the EuroVolley,” says Alexander Yaremenko.

Some were afraid that Shlyapnikov might have problems in dealing with the players? Problems in the relationship of the player and the coach are always there. I have a formula: If an athlete loves a coach, then the coach is a bad one. While he is working with you, you must hate him, because he squeezes everything out of you, pushes you towards volleyball duties so hard that you want to go on vacation and stay with your wife. And only after two or three years you realize the main thing. Perhaps the guys who used to work with Shlyapnikov had something to say about him but I saw that they played for him,” says Yaremenko for Soviet Sport.
